Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an Al-Mg series alloy having excellent mechanical strength, stress corosion crack resistance and moldability by a method wherein an Al- Mg series alloy ingot containing specific components such as Mg, Zn or the like is subjected to soaking treatment and, thereafter, subjected to hot rolling under a condition wherein a rolling finish temp. is specified and directly thereafter, cooled at a predetermined cooling speed.
CONSTITUTION: An Al-Mg type alloy ingot containing 2W8% Mg, 0.3W3.5% Zn, other than the same, one or more of 0.3W1% Si, 0.2W2.5% Cu, 0.05W1.5% Mn, 0.05W0.3% Cr, 0.02W0.2% Ti, 0.05W0.3% Zr is prepared. Then, said alloy ingot is subjected to soaking treatment at 480W580°C for 2W24hr. Next, the alloy ingot after soaking treatment is subjected to hot rolling at the aforementioned soaking temp. or below and a rolling completion finish temp. is adjusted to 300W 450°C to carry out hot rolling. Next, the rolled alloy after the hot rolling is completed is directly cooled at a cooling speed of 600W{3/500(450W300°C)-1.7}°C/ min to prepare the objective Al-Mg series alloy.
