Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify a process for heat treating a damping Mn-Cu-Ti alloy without deteriorating the damping capacity and mechanical properties by cooling the alloy of a specific compsn. from the soln. heat treatment temp. range under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: An Mn-Cu-Ti alloy consisting of Cu; 20W55wt%, Ti≤15%, and the balance Mn is refined, forged, and cooled from the soln. heat treatment temp. range at a cooling rate less than 150°C/min. By this treatment method the heat treatment process can be simplified without deteriorating the damping capacity and mechanical properties. This alloy is suitable for various machines, e.g. transport machines such as aircraft and cars, various structural members, etc.
