Abstract

PURPOSE: To withstand the change in atmospheric air, vacuum, inert gas, etc., and obtain a sufficient heat insulation effect of a long life by disposing a graphite heating element on a riser gate and electroheating the same.
CONSTITUTION: This consists of an annular base 4 made of heat insulating bricks placed on a riser gate 2, a heating element 5 like a bottomed vessel made of graphite mounted on the base 4, and an electrode 6 connected to the heating element 5. The lower half part of the body 5 is fitted into the base 4 and covers the opening part of the gate 2. A heat insulating material 7 such as ceramic wool is packed in the hollow part of the element 5. A thermocouple 8 mounted to the base 4 is for controlling the temp. of the element 5, and a melt level detection sensor 9 mounted to the base 4 detects the upper limit of the molten metal during teeming. The molten metal in the riser gate in the mold is heat- insulated adequately by the above mainly in an inert gaseous atmosphere.
