Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled composition that is made by adding ammonium polyphosphate and a bisamide compound to a polybutylene terephthalate resin, thus being suitably used as a material for electrical appliances, because of its improved flame retardancy and appearance without any adverse effects on mechanical properties.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. of a polybutylene terephthalate resin, usually of 0.6W 1.5 intrinsic viscosity at 30°C, are kneaded together with 1W10pts. of ammonium polyphosphate, e.g., a salt of formulaIof 30W32wt% phosphorus content, and 0.01W1pts. of a bisamide compound of formula II or III (R1 is residue of divalent hydrocarbon residue; R2, R3 are residue of monovalent hydrocarbon; R4, R5 are H, residue of monovalent hydrocarbon) such as N,N'-methylenebisstearic acid amide or N,N'-dioctadecylterephthalic acid amide under melting.
