Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled composition that is made by adding ammonium polyphosphate and a urea compound to polybutylene terephthalate, thus being suitably used as a material for electrical appliances, because of its improved flame retardancy and appearance without any adverse effects on mechanical properties.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. of polybutylene terephthalate, usually of 0.6W1.5 intrinsic viscosity at 30°C, are kneaded together with 1W10pts. of ammonium polyphosphate of formulaIwhose phosphorus content is 30W32wt% and 0.01W 1pts. of a urea compound of formula II (R1 is residue of aromatic hydrocarbon; R2, R3 are residue of aliphatic hydrocarbon of 8W23C carbon atoms) such as 1,4-bis(3-octadecylureidobenzene) under melting.
