Abstract

PURPOSE: To form uniform grooves which effectively orient a liquid crystal on the surface treated film of an electrode substrate by polishing the surface of said surface treated film to be put in contact with a liquid crystal material, in the fixed direction, with a sheet or roller fixed with a specific fibrous material in the perpendicular direction.
CONSTITUTION: A silane coupline agent or the like is coated on the surface of an electrode substrate to be put in contact with a liquid crystal material, whereby a surface treated film is formed. This surface treated film is polished in a fixed direction with a sheet or roller 2 which has plural grooves in a lengthwise direction and is secured with fibers 1 of acrylic or polyester of 0.01W0.3mmϕ in a perpendicular direction, whereby numerous small grooves of a fixed direction are formed. By using this electrode substrate, the good quality liquid crystal display element regularly and effectively oriented with the liquid crystal is obtained.
