Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable uniform heating of glass raw material, thereby utilizing the thermal energy effectively and attaining an easy forming, by irradiating the part of the glass to be formed with microwave, and melting and forming the glass.
CONSTITUTION: A glass raw material 6 is placed on a table 4, the upper face of the material 6 is covered with a shield plate 7, the door of a forming oven 1 is opened, the table 4 is introduced into the oven 1, and microwave is transmitted into the forming oven 1 from a microwave generator 10 through a waveguide 9. The microwave is reflected by the metal such as shield wall 2 and the shield plate 7, etc. in the forming oven 1, and transmitted to the exposed part of the glass 6 through the hole 8 of the shield plate 7. The microwave induces molecular vibration in the glass 6, and the internal heat generation caused by the molecular vibration heats the glass uniformly and rapidly to melt or soften the glass. When the glass 6 is softened to a desired state, the microwave radiation is stopped, the table 4 is taken out of the forming oven 1, and the softend glass is subjected to a desired forming such as deformation, bonding, etc.
