Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the glass wall of a glass article such as the funnel of a TV cathode-ray tube from breaking before slow cooling without occurrence of thermal stress in the glass due to local heating by high-frequency-heating a metallic member to be sealed in the wall and by heating a heat radiation plate set in the vicinity of the sealing part of the wall.
CONSTITUTION: Anode button 12 put into opening 13 of glass window 11 of TV cathode-ray tube 10 is heated with work coil 14 connected to the secondary coil of a high frequency heater. Glass contacting to button 12 is melted, and button 12 is sealed in opening 13. At the same time, heat radiation plate 15 made of stainless steel is heated with coil 14, and the glass wall surrounding the sealed part is heated to a suitable temp. inducing no softening deformation with the radiant heat. By this method a well sealed form is obtd. without softening deformation since the wall is not heated to a high temp.
