Abstract
PURPOSE:To avoid ill effects caused from a high temperature while sealing by joining a neck and a stem together with a low melting point glass and also joining a panel and a funnel together with a low melting point glass having a higher melting point than that used for joining the neck and the stem. CONSTITUTION:A stem 3 is coated with a low melting point glass 72, and is inserted into a predetermined position in a neck 4 of a funnel. On the other hand, the funnel edge is also coated with a low melting point glass, and a panel is put at a predetermined position on it. Now, the melting point of the low melting point glass to join the neck and the stem together and the low melting point glass to join the funnel and the panel together is made at, e.g., about 371 deg.C and about 477 deg.C respectively. Then, a set made of the panel, the funnel, and the stem is introduced into a furnace with a high temperature at the upper layer 5 and a low temperature at the lower layer 6 to conduct heat treatment and sealing. Thus, the stem can be sealed without exposing an electron gun to a high temperature, and the sealing process of the neck and the stem can be omitted.
