Abstract

PURPOSE:To save energy, and shorten the time of the manufacturing process of a color picture tube by avoiding repeatedly carrying out heating and cooling by carrying out both highly vacuum exhaustion of the bulb and fusing process with a frit in a continuous process. CONSTITUTION:A part of a frit glass 8 is provided with a stage of about 2mm. height so that the gas contained in a bulb is exhausted outside through a space formed between a panel and a funnel. Next, the parts of a picture tube are heated to 350 deg.C while exhaustion of a case is carried out, thus the bulb is exhausted through the space between the above panel and funnel. Here, the exhaustion conductance is sufficiently large, since the height of the above space is around 2mm. and the width of the above space, the thickness of the upper end of the funnel, which can be increased, is not so large. After that, the bulb is enough exhausted, and the internal temperature is incoreased to 480 deg.C, so that the frit glass 8 is softened, molten and crystallized and the panel and the funnel are fused.
