Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate cracks by a method wherein a luminous vessel is made immune from a heat shock by continuously carrying out frit sealing and air- discharging processes. CONSTITUTION:A bulge formed in the opening of the external portion 1 of a vessel is filled with glass frit 12 and the opening together with an internal lead wire 7 and a discharge pipe 10 are sealed by melting the glass frit 12. Next the vessel is heated up to the maximum temperature of about 280 deg.C without cooling the vessel and then the air in the vessel is discharged. Then excessive mercury and argon 2.5 are enclosed in the luminous vessel, the mercury and argon being supplied to the vessel through the discharge pipe 10. The discharge pipe 10 is thence chipped off.
