Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively achieve a clean spark gap in an ignition plug and proper combustion of air fuel mixture by feeding compressed air through a scavenging valve into an auxiliary combustion chamber connected to a main combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: In a suction stroke, a piston 2 is pulled down to produce a negative pressure in a main combustion chamber 5, whereby sucking a fresh lean mixture into the chamber via a suction valve 12. On account of a low pressure in an auxiliary combustion chamber 8, a valve body 23 of a remained-gas scavenging valve 20 is moved against a force of a spring 26 to open an aperture 22. Through the aperture 22, air from an air pump 28 is allowed to be fed into the auxiliary combustion chamber 8. Burning gas remained in a previous cycle inside the chamber 8 is squeezed towards the main combustion chamber 5 via a communication passage 7. Accompanied with air passing through the chamber 5, the air removes harmful substances like carbon accumulated in the spark gap 15 of an ignition plug 13.
