Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance power generation and improve a thermal efficiency by parallelly putting a primary cylinder intended for expansion and exhaust storkes and an auxiliary cylinder intended for suction and compression strokes on the same crankshaft.
CONSTITUTION: As the condition just prior to an expansion stroke is shown by the drawing, both pistons 4, 5 of respective main and auxiliary cylinders 1, 2 are positioned at TDCs, where a mixture gas compressed in the auxiliary cylinder 2 forcibly opens a check valve 14 and is squeezed into a combustion chamber 10. Under said condition, when the mixture gas is ignited by an ignition plug 11, a control valve 2 is simultaneously opened so that an inrush of the exploded gas enters the primary cylinder 1 and expanded therein to push the piston 4 down. Simultaneously with the pushing action, the auxiliary piston 5 is lowered to open a suction valve 15, from which a fresh air is sucked into the auxiliary cylinder 2. Thereafter, the valves 12, 15 are closed and an exhaust valve 13 is opened to discharge the exhaust gas.
