Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce beautiful grain pattern simply, by the electrolytic treatment of Al in an aqueous soln. made by adding alkaline electrolyte to an aqueous soln. of acidic electrolyte, then by performing anodic oxidation of the Al, and by coloring the Al with metallic salt or dyes.
CONSTITUTION: Al or Al alloy material, having previously been degreased and etched, is electrolytically treated in an aqueous soln., made by addition of one of alkaline electrolytes such as sodium hydroxide, sodium metasilicate, sodium hydrogencarbonate etc. to a dil. aqueous soln. contg. at least one of acidic electrolytes such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, chromic acid, sulfamic acid, or other acidic electrolyte, by using AC, or wave shaped electric power source which has the same effect. After the material is anodic oxidized by using inorg. acid, org. acid, or a mixed acid of these acids as electrolytic soln., it is immersed in an inorg. coloring bath contg. metallic salt or a soln. of dyes thereby producing grain pattern of beautiful color tone.
