Abstract
PURPOSE: To separate and remove iron from a liquid containing iron as an ethylene diamine tetraacetatic acid (EDTA)-ferric chelate compound, by precipitating a ferric hydroxide by adding a strong alkali agent to the liquid.
CONSTITUTION: To a liquid, such as waste photographic processing water, containing iron as an ethylene diamine tetraacetatic acid-ferric chelate compound, a strong alkali agent, such as a sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide, is added. Then, the compound is decomposed and the iron is precipitated as a ferric hydroxide. Later, the precipitate of this ferric hydroxide is separated in the solid-liquid separating method. Thus, the iron can efficiently be removed from the liquid containing the iron as the EDTA-ferric chelate compound.
