Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the life of a magnetron by heating filament supporting members formed in a nonoxidative gas atmosphere with sintered high melting point metal, in order to substitute gases included in gaps between the supporting members with the nonoxidative gas. CONSTITUTION:Supporting members 3, 4 of a filament 1 for a magnetron cathode body is formed by molding and sintering molybdenum powder. The supporting members 3, 4 are heat treated at 1,000-1,400 deg.C for 1hr in a nonoxidative atomsphere such as hydrogen gas or mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen gas. Air or other gases in gaps between the supporting members 3, 4 are substituted with the nonoxidative gas through the heat treatment. Thus, gasious components in the supporting members are removed easily through a vacuum exhaust treatment in the production process of the magnetron, the evacuated state is maintained for long time, and the life of the magnetron can be improved.
