PURPOSE:To improve the precision of welding in preparation of a tain-free steel can, by butt-welding cylinder parts with a laser so that the thickness of a seam part may attain to a prescribed thickness. CONSTITUTION:When the cylinder part of a can is butt-welded with a laser, the thickness of the seam part should be <=1.2 time the platr thickness. Thus, the welding is quickened and its precision is improved. Further, the angle of the butt flank is favorably set to <= about 15 deg. and the gap <= about 0.05mm. due to the unevenness of the flank is preferred. To improve the absorption of laser light, oleic acid can be applied and further the irradiation surface is placed in the helium atmosphere, for example, during irradiation, to perform complete fusing.
