Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily obtain a heat pipe of improved performance by using a mandrel having projections on its outside circumference as a closely adhering jig for expanding a pipe made of nonferrous metals inserted into hollow steel.
CONSTITUTION: A nonferrous metal pipe 2 of an outside diameter slightly smaller than the inside diameter of hollow steel 1 of high mechanical strength is inserted into said steel. After this, a mandrel 4 provided with a number of projections 3 on its outside circumference is press-fitted into the pipe 2 to expand the pipe 2 and closely adhere its outside circumference to the inside circumference of the hollow steel 1. At this same instant, multiple grooves 5 are formed in the inside wall of the pipe 2 by the projections 3. Thereafter, one end of the pipe 2 is closed and further a negative pressure is developed in the pipe 2 to put working fluid therein, then the other end is closed as well.
