Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture Ag-SnO2 electrical contacts by a simpler operation by internally oxidizing fine powder of an Ag-Sn alloy contg. a specified amount of Sn followed by cold molding, sintering and hot pressing.
CONSTITUTION: ≤100μm Powder of an Ag-Sn alloy contg. 4W9wt% Sn is heated at 500W750°C in the air to preferentially oxidize the Sn by internal oxidation. The resulting powder having the composition of Ag-SnO2 is cold press molded and sintered at 800°C in air, and then this sintered body is hot pressed to manufacture an Ag-SnO2 electrical contact material. Since the Ag-Sn alloy is treated in such a finely powdered state, the time required to internally oxidize the alloy is reduced, and the internal oxidation can be accomplished easily even in the air.
