Abstract
PURPOSE:To encapsulate a fluorescent tube reliably, by employing specific dimension for a button stem, thereby eliminating the defective encapsulation. CONSTITUTION:The stem flare diameter d of a buttom stem 1 is selected in such a way that it will come within 75-98% of the inner diameter A of a fluorescent discharge tube, while the taper angle theta of the stem flare is set between 10 deg.-60 deg.. When setting d/A within the said range, proper squeezing at the end of the fluorescent discharging tube is obtained, while, when setting the taper angle within the said range, excessive fusing of the stem flare can be prevented. Furthermore, when making the stem length H to be 0.8-4 times of the thickness (t) of the fluorescent tube glass, the thermal strength and the mechanical strength are improved to prevent the thermal distortion. With such arrangement, the defective encapsulation is eliminated and the fluorescent tube can be encapsulated reliably.
