Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a sliding material having excellent pressure resistance, strength, hardness, and abrasion resistance under a high temperature by sintering molded mixture of carbonaceous material, metal alloy, and organic silicone cpd.
CONSTITUTION: Carbonaceous material such as coke or graphite: 0W80%, organic silicone cpd. such as polydimethyl silane: 1W50%, tar as a binding agent: 0W60%, the remaining metal or alloy such as Al, Ni, Cu, Ag, Mo, and W are grained except for tar and then mixed. The mixture is formed into a specified shape under a pressure of 200W1,000kg/cm2 and heated to a temperature of 100W150°C to vaporize volatile matter in the mixture. The mixture is sintered by raising the temperature to 800W1,000°C whereby highly reactive Si produced by decomposition of organic silicone cpd. reacts with carbonaceous material to form SiO, which, together with formed metal carbide, is uniformly distributed into the product. Thus, the process provides a sliding material having excellent properties under high temperature and suited as current passing brush, pantograph, metal, and bearing.
