Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of a water injection device by injecting engine cooling water in a feed air passage by the exhaust pressure of a water pump.
CONSTITUTION: When an air feed temperature detection switch 31, an engine temperature detection switch 35, and a cooling water level detection switch 36 are all in OFF state, and further the pressure within a surge tank 13 becomes more than a predetermined value by the operation of a compressor C, an electromagnetic interrupting valve 34 is opened. Since the pressure within an exhaust chamber 26 of a water pump 20 is higher than the pressure within the surge tank 13, when the electromagnetic interrupting valve 34 is opened, cooling water within the exhaust chamber 26 is injected into the surge tank 13 from a water injection nozzle 29 through a water feed conduit pipe 32. Injected water comes into contact with air whose temperature has been raised by the compressor C, and is evaporated. Air is cooled by an evaporation latent heat upon this occasion.
