PURPOSE:To suppress spuriousness and to obtain excellent resonance characteristics, by taking the shape of oscillator as rectangular wave type, making the direction of long side dimension coincident with the direction of ''fast'' slip mode displacement within X-cut plane and also making the ''slow'' slip mode orthogonal to it coincident with the direction of width dimension. CONSTITUTION:In the X-cut plane, the long side dimension L direction of the rectangular oscillator is made coincident with the direction of the ''fast'' slip mode displacement, and the ''slow'' slip mode is made coincident with the direction of width dimension W orthogonal to the long side. In this case, since the ''fast'' slip mode is in parallel with the long side in the direction of displacement, no mode conversion is made, allowing the thickness slip oscillation determined by the thickness. On the other hand, in the ''slow'' slip mode, since the direction of displacement is orthogonal to the direction of long side, it cannot be pure thickness slip mode, but it is converted into the sectional profile slip oscillation mode determined with the thickness and the width W. Thus, the suppression or rejection of spurious oscillation of the oscillator can be made.
