Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to perform a rapid heating at a starting time, by a method wherein, in a device which collects the exhaust heat from an engine and transfers it to a heater core, a heat accumulator mounted at an exhaust pipe and a heat exchanger in the exhaust pipe are installed. CONSTITUTION:A heat accmulator 7 is mounted at a part of an exhaust pipe 6 of an engine 1 so that it surrounds said part. The heat accumulator 7 consists of a heat accumulating matter container 7a containing a heat accumulating matter and a thermal medium container 7b wherethrough engine cooling water flows, and a heat exchanger 10 is installed in an exhaust pipe 6 positioned at an upstream side from a position where the heat accmulator 7 is mounted. A return side from a heater core 5 at a cooling water line 2 running between the engine 1 and the heater core 5 is branched for being connected to a suction port of a pump 11. Lines 12 and 13 connected to the discharge port of the pump 11 are connected to flow inlets of the heat accumulator 7 and heat exchanger 10, repsectively. Lines 14 and 15 connected to flow outlets of the heat accumulator 7 and heat exchanger 10, respectively, are connected to the line 2 through the medium of a switch valve 16.
