Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a melting electric power of an arc furnace by a method wherein a high temperature residual substance obtained from a sludge incinerator is directly cast into an enclosed type arc furnace, without performing a forced cooling.
CONSTITUTION: In a multistage grate type incinerator 8 provided with a combusting aria 4 and provided with no cooling aria, a high temperature ash exhausted from an ash outlet port 9 via the combusting aria 4 is carried from a conveyer 10 without performing a forced cooling, and is directly cast into an enclosed type arc furnace 11. The ash cast into the arc furnace 11 is decomposed by heat by means of an arc heat generated between an electrode 14 and a conductive material 15 such as graphite or a molten metal at the furnace bottom. At this time, the ash cast into the arc furnace 11 is approximately 600W800°C, as a result, electric power for the ash melting use can be reduced.
