Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily remove bad-smelling components which are generated at the time of preheating scraps by utilizing waste heat of an electric furnace.
CONSTITUTION: The scraps fed into a scrap preheating chamber 5 is fed into the electric furnace 1 by high-temperature exhaust gas supplied from a buffer cylinder 2 and is heated in the furnace 1. However, the bad-smelling components can not be removed completely by pyrolysis in such a temperature range. Therefore, when the exhaust gas from the cylinder 2 is not fed into the preheating chamber 5 for preheating the scrap, the entire or a part of the exhaust gas is fed into a heat-accumulating chamber 9 through a duct 7 by changing over a damper 7 so as to heat the chamber 9 to the temperature necessary for thermally decomposing or incinerating the bad- smelling components. Accordingly, the bad-smelling components in the exhaust gas fed from the chamber 5 are completely removed in the high temperature range.
