Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance development reliability and high speed recording performance in magnetic brush type electrophotographic reversal development, by developing an electrostatic image between a recording member and a magnet roller under the conditions where self-bias voltage occurs in the region free from the charge of the electrostatic image.
CONSTITUTION: In order to effect reversal development without applying bias voltage between electrostatic recording member 1 and magnet roller 5, a 5mm long magnetic brush of a mixture of magnetic carrier and toner particles in 100:5 weight ratio is formed on roller 5 rotating at 50cm/sec peripheral speed and having 800 gauss magnetic intensity. At that time, a developer used allows the magnetic brush to rise in volume resistivity to 3.5×109ohm.cm or more when 100V DC is applied. This developer is obtained by adjusting an amount of insulating material for coating the magnetic carrier particles and mixing of a powder of Ni or the like, thus permitting the magnetic brush formed by use of this developer to produce self bias voltage, and therefore, reversal development to be made without applying bias voltage between member 1 and roller 5.
