Abstract
PURPOSE: To surely and hermetically seal the liquid crystal sealing port of a cell made by joining two sheets of electrode substrates by means of an org. adhesive agent and improve durability and reliability by coating an epoxy-base adhesive agent contained with a specific amount of metal powder around said port and allow the adhesive agent to set.
CONSTITUTION: Upper, lower substrates 1, 2 are sealed at the circumferential edge part by means of an epoxy base adhesive material 11 containing spacers, or the like. An epoxy base adhesive agent 12 contg. metal powder such as Ag, Cu is coated on the peripheral part of the liquid crystal sealing port 5 opened in part of the end part thereof and is then allowed to set. A suitable compounding amount of the metal powder is about ≥10vol% and ≤50%. Next, the mixture of Ni-Cr is pattern- evaporated on the adhesive agent 12 and the end faces of the substrates 1, 2 around the same, after which further Au is evaporated to form a metal vapor deposition film 9. Thence, a liquid crystal 7 is sealed, after which metal solder 10 is melt- stuck on the film 9 whereby the port is sealed. In this way, the port is surely and hermetically sealed; in addition, the degradation of the liquid crystal by the effect of heat at the soldering does not occur and the reliability and durability are improved.
