Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent air-fuel ratio of an engine from becoming too rich at a high ground or the like, by providing a compensating means which limits the operation of a fuel increasing means when an output signal of an exhaust-gas sensor or an air- fuel ratio controlling signal is produced for a while longer than a predetermined time period to decrease the flow rate of fuel supplied from a fuel metering means.
CONSTITUTION: During ordinary operation of an engine, fuel flow from a fuel metering means 16 is controlled by an actuator 24 in response to a control signal given from an air-fuel ratio controlling circuit 21 on the basis of the output of an exhaust-gas sensor 20, such that the air-fuel ratio becomes equal to the theoretical value. On the other hand, at a high ground, for instance, air-fuel ratio tends to become rich, and it is not possible to adjust the air-fuel ratio to the theoretical value by simply shifting an actuator 15 to "lean" side. In order to overcome the above difficulties, there is provided a compensating means 22 including a detecting circuit 23 capable of detecting, from the output signal of a comparison circuit 25, that the air-fuel ratio is kept rich for a long time. When the above state is detected by the detecting circuit 23, a stopper 24a is projected through operation of an actuator 24 for restricting opening of a power valve 19 which is associated with a fuel increasing means 17.
