Abstract
PURPOSE: To maintain the molten metal levels in the spout and mold always at correct values and prevent the quality degradation of ingots by calculating the flow resistance of a filter and automatically controlling the molten metal level before and behind the filter.
CONSTITUTION: A molten metal supply furnace 25 is tilted by a cylinder 26 which is extended by the command from a furnace tilting controller C, then molten metal flows into an intermediate spout 24. The intermediate spout molten level is measured by a molten metal level sensor 23 and a molten metal level gauge 1, and is fed back to the controller C via a central processing and control panel A. The molten metal filtered by a filter 22 flows through a spout 20 then through nozzles 7, 12 and flows into a mold 4. The molten metal level in the spout is measured by a molten level sensor 21, and a molten metal level H and the molten metal level in the mold is measured by molten metal level sensors 5, 10 and molten metal level gauges D, F. These signals are sent to the central operation panel A. From the mold 4, the ingots 8, 13 of respective strands are drawn by a cylinder 16 which is controlled by a dummy bar drawing speed controller B, whereby they are made into the products.
