Abstract

CONSTITUTION: A compound of Mg is mixed with alumina contg. ρ-alumina or χ-alumina as a portion or a principal component and is formed. The mixture is aged in a humidified atmosphere and saturated steam. Mg(OH)2, MgO, MgCO3 etc. are used as the Mg compound, and 75W200°C temp. is preferable as the aging temp. when Mg(OH)2 or MgO is used, and ≥120°C temp. is preferable when MgCO3 is used. Calcining at a temp. lower than these temp. described above permits to harden the mixture satisfactorily, and the specific surface area is selected at will according to need.
