Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the activity of a catalyst, by mingling fibrous material into a support and/or a catalyst so as to increase the surface area of molded catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: In forming catalyst mold 2, fibrous material 1 is mingled into a mixture of the catalyst with the support, or into the support itself, and the fibrous material 1 is removed by calcination if necessary after the formation. The fibrous material 1 is arranged irregularly in the catalyst mold 2, and is partly projected from the surface 3. Drying and calcination of the catalyst mold causes peeling between the mold 2 and the fibrous material 1 thereby increasing the surface area of the mold 2. Thus the surface area of the catalyst mold 2 is increased by a simple method, so that its activity is improved.
