Abstract

PURPOSE: To float activated sludge flocs deposited to water surface by means of the buoyancy of air bubbles by jetting pressurized water containing air from pipes with a large number of nozzles for back-washing purpose, provided at the lower part of an aeration tank.
CONSTITUTION: A pressurized water pipe with a large number of exhaust nozzles is provided to the lower part of an aeration tank 1 having a fixed bed 2 and a diffusion pipe 5. Water in a water tank 22 is sent to an ejector 24 from which air is introduced, sent under pressure to a pressurizing tank 20 by means of a compressor 26, and then jetted as pressurized water from the nozzles 17 through a valve 19. Then, fine bubbles are isolated as pressure is reduced and adhered to excessive sludge in the tank 1, thereby causing sludge flocs formed to float toward water surface. Thus, the aeration tank can be effectively back-washed.
