Abstract
PURPOSE: To lower the circulating flow rate of sanitary waste and save energy by feeding water contg. nitrite or nitrate nitrogen and activated sludge into a downward region and introducing oxygen-contg. gas into an upward region.
CONSTITUTION: Org. sanitary waste C, water E contg. nitrite or nitrate nitrogen and activated sludge F contg. facultative anaerobic denitrification bacteria are fed into downward flow region B. On the other hand, oxygen-contg. water and/or oxygen-contg. gas is introduced into upward flow region A through lines G, K with compressor 2 or ejector 7. Thus, a circulating flow is formed between regions A, B, and part of the resulting treated mixed liquor is introduced from line D into activated sludge separating and degassing vessel 6, where the activated sludge is separated, and the liquor is degassed to obtain treated water. By this method the circulating flow rate of waste C can be lowered to save energy as compared to a conventional method, and BOD removal and denitrification can be accomplished simultaneously without spearetely feeding oxygen into region B.
