Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively decompose and remove hardly decomposable organics present in waste water by performing catalytic oxidation under a biological aeration condition using a lacelike contact material in a waste water treatment consisting of a combination of multistage catalytic oxidation and sludge separation.
CONSTITUTION: An organic waste water is put in the first catalytic oxidation tank 1 in which plural contact materials 5 laid with lacelike contact materials 7 are arranged. When air is supplied to organics present in the waste water, biological membrane begins to adhere to the contact materials 7, and as the biological membrane adhered comes into contact with the waste water, BOD content in the waste water is decomposed by oxidation and the biological membrane grows. Then, peeled sludge and scum are precipitated and removed in a sedimentation tank 3, and sent to the second catalytic oxidation tank having the same mechanism as the first tank, where the removal of remaining BOD content and the nitrification and partial denitrification of amonia nitrogen are performed. Thus, BOD volume load can be raised and highly treated water can therefore be obtained.
