Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the preservation stability by adding a given amount of either sulfur or a sulfur compound to the positive mixture whose main component is manganese dioxide. CONSTITUTION:A gel-like zinc negative-electrode 2 is placed in the center of a cyrindrical positive mixture 1 with a bag-like separator interposed between the positive mixture 1 and the negative electrode 2. This is placed in a battery case 4, which is closed by the use of a negative terminal plate 7 having a positive-collector bar 6, a positive terminal plate 8, a metal exterior can 10 and a resin sealing-body 5 to constitute an alkaline manganese battery. The positive mixture 1 of such a battery contains manganese dioxide as a main component which is added with either sulfur or a sulfur compound whose content is 0.01-3% of the former manganese dioxide. Sodium sulfide, potassium sulfide, calcium sulfide or magnesium sulfide is preferred as the former sulfur compound.
