Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an antioxidant having excellent antibacterial and antifugal activities, very low odor, and nearly white color, by combining a component obtained by treating herb spices under conditions, a mixture of dehydroacetone and an amino acid, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A raw material selected from (A) a herb spice such as sage, rosemary, etc., (B) the residue obtained by separating essential oil from the spice, (C) an oleo resin of a harb spice extracted with a (non)polar solvent, and (D) the extraction residue of (C), is extracted with a polar solvent, and the extract is decolored by adding an adsorbent thereto. After separating the adsorbent, the solution is concentrated and subjected to steam distillation. An antioxidant component is obtained as the insoluble part of the distillation residue. 1W10wt% of the antioxidant component is mixed with pref. 1W100pts.wt. of a component selected from a mixture of dehydroacetone and an amino acid, quercetin, and phytic acid to obtain the objective antioxidant.
