Abstract

PURPOSE:To arrange so that a toner concentration inside a developing device may be detected accurately by providing a member to adjust a positive reflective light proceeding to a light-receiving element for light quantity compensation of a sensor to a light flux of proper light quantity so that a correct light quantity signal may be generated. CONSTITUTION:A reflective light L irradiated from a light source 4 against a developing agent A located at a measurement position B is divided into a penetrating light and a positive reflective light by means of a light passage splitting member 224. The penetrating light L1 becomes a reflective light L2 at a measuring position B, reaching a main light-receiving element 5 and is converted to a toner concentration signal F. The positive reflective light L3 penetrates through a diffusion layer 711 of a diffuser 11 on a light quantity adjustment member and then is converted to a light quantity signal H by a light-receiving element 6 for light quantity compensation after light quantity adjustment. The positive reflective light L3 has its directional property lessened during its passage through the diffusion layer 711, so that a correct light quantity signal H can be obtained, even if any error exists in installing the light-receiving element 6 or the light source 4. The both signals F, H are inputted to a toner concentration control circuit 51.
