Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform a correction of temperature through detection of temperature from the output of a light detector, by a method wherein a temperature detecting element, exercising the influence on passage light corresponding to temperature, is mounted to a part of a transmission path between a light emitting device and the light detector. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light emitting device 1 is fed to a photomagnetic field sensor 3 via an optical fiber 2a, and after light is rectilinearly polarized by a polarizer 5, an optical Faraday element 6 turns a polarizing direction corresponding to a magnitude of an external detecting element 9, made of a material whose absorbance varies with temperature to enter a light sensor 7, it is fed to a light detector 8 via an optical fiber 2b, and it is processed by an AC amplifier 10, a DC amplifier 11, and divider 12 to obtain an output. This permits compensation of a Verdet constant of the Faraday element 6 for a temperature property by means of the optical temperature detecting element 9, and permits the high-precise measurement of a physical volume such as external magnetic field.
