Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a more compact heat exchanger by forming counterflow passages and crossflow passages of air streams between the heat-exchanger plates of a plate-type heat exchanger and providing ribs so that the counterflow passage width is larger than the crossflow passage width.
CONSTITUTION: Heat-exchanger plates 1 are put one on top the other in opposite directions. The primary air stream is supplied along solid-line ribs 3, and the secondary air stream along interrupted-line ribs 3. Because the width a of a passage extending inwards from a long side A of the heat-exchanger plate 1 is narrower than the width b of a counterflow passage in the central portion B, the flow velocity Vb in the counterflow passage can be slower than the flow velocity Va in the crossflow passage. Moreover, the length of the crossflow passage can be shorter, and the length l of the counterflow passage can be longer. Therefore, the heat exchanger effectiveness is improved, and a more compact heat exchanger can be obtained.
