Abstract

PURPOSE: To concentrate and purify the titled substance having an antiviral and antitumor activity to a high concentration, by treating a crude solution of a human fibroplastic interferon with a strongly acidic cation exchanger and then a cobalt chelate carrier.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of a crude human fibroplastic interferon is brought into contact with a strongly acidic cation exchanger, e.g. SP-Sephadex C-25 column, under acidic conditions to adsorb the interferon on the carrier. The adsorbed interferon is then recovered by an eluent as a solution. The solution thus obtained is brought into contact with a carrier bonded to a chelate group in which cobalt is chelated to adsorb the interferon on the carrier. The adsorbed interferon is then recovered by an eluent as a solution. According to the method, the concentrating and purifying effect can be more remarkably improved than the method in which the carriers are used alone.
