Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a seasoning, with simplified crystallization process, by separating crystals from a solution of sodium glutamate prepared by fermentation, contacting the mother liquid with an anion exchange resin, and again separating the crystals.
CONSTITUTION: The mother liquid left after the separation of sodium glutamate crystals (the objective product) from a solution of sodium glutamate obtained by fermentation, is brought into contact with an anion exchange resin, and then sodium glutamate is crystallized and separated from the mother liquid and dried to obtain the objective purified crystals. The anion exchange resin is e.g. "DiaionHPA-25" (product of Mistubishi Chemical Ind. Co.), etc. By the use of the ion exchange resin, the coloring materials hardly removable by adsorption with activated charcoal can be removed easily from the mother liquid, and trace heavy metals composed mainly of iron ion can also be removed effectively. The crystallization process can be eliminated and the energy is saved by the use of this process.
