Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a granular citrulline anhydride crystal having improved storage stability, by inoculating a δ crystal of citrulline anhydride into a saturated or supersaturated solution of citrulline, and concentrating and crystallizing the citrulline anhydride under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A saturated or supersaturated solution of citrulline (raw solution for crystallization) is inoculated with about 0.1W30%, based on the total crystallized amount, δ crystal of citrulline anhydride at 45°C or above. The solution is then concentrated and crystallized while maintaining the concentration of the citrulline in a metastable supersaturation region at 45°C or above to give a granular crystal of citrulline. As for the raw solution for crystallization, a crude crystal of citrulline dihydrate or a solution treated with an ion exchange resin is used. The method is suitable particularly for the final crystallization of the citrulline.
