Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to read out a picture stored by the liquid crystal as an electrical signal, as well through adding the picture to an optical signal, by layering the second photoconductive layer and the transparent electrode in order on either of the transparent electrodes of the picture memory device.
CONSTITUTION: The spot light 13 of constant strength is irradiated from the liquid crystal 14 side, applying the prescribed voltage to the transparent electrodes 14, 15, and the whole surface of the liquid crystal 4 is irradiated. As a result, the spot light which becomes strong or weak corresponding to the white-colored pattern stored in the liquid crystal 4 is made incident to the second photoconductive layer 9. When the spot light which has been made to become strong or weak has gone into the second photoconductive layer 9, the conductivity of the photoconductive layer 9 is varied in accordance with strength or weakness of the spot light, and therefore an electrical signal according to the pattern of an picture stored in the liquid crystal is output from the read-out electric output terminal 12.
