Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide memory action to the image transducer by providing an insulation layer having ferrodielectric characteristic on at least one surface of a single crystal plate having electro-optic effect and photoconductive effect of wavelength dependency and providing a transparent electrode which applies an electric field to the single crystal plate and insulation layer.
CONSTITUTION: Insulation layers 15, 15' composed of polyvinylidene fluoride or copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and tetrafluoroethylene having ferrodielectric characteristic are formed on both sides of the signle crystal 14 of Bi12SiO20, Bi2 GeO20 which have high photoconductive effect to write light and by which the single crystal of large size and high quality is readily obtained. Thence, transparent electrodes 16, 16' of In2O3 or the like are formed on the layers 15, 15', whereby memory action is provided to the image transducer which converts the image of incoherent light to the image information of coherent light. It is possible to provide the similar memory action evey by providing the insulation layer on only the one side.
