Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the charge distribution on a photosensitive drum surface even, remove uneven electric potentials and achieve beautiful copying by forming the end edge of a shield plate opposing to a photoreceptor in arc form.
CONSTITUTION: A photosensitive drum 1 is rotated in the direction of an arrow and the photosensitive drum 1 is charged by the corona discharge generated by a discharge member 2. The central part of the photosensitive drum 1 becomes higher in electric potential than at the end part. Thereupon, the end 4 of the shield plate 3 opposing to the photosensitive drum 1 is formed in such arc form which is close to the photosensitive drum surface at the center and leaves from the photosensitive drum at both ends so that the photosensitive drum surface assumes an even charge distribution. As a result of this, the width W on the photosensitive drum surface charged by the discharge member 2 is relatively narrow in the central section of the shield plate but said charge width W' becomes much wider in the section at both ends of the shield plate 3, thus the two ends of the photosensitive drum 1 become higher in charge quantity than the central part and the electric potential at the end parts and the potential in the central part become even in terms of potential.
