Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable secure and easy separation of transfer paper from the drum, by controlling the transfer device so that the electrostatic charge amount be smaller than at the time of transfer until the front end of transfer paper passes the transfer position of photosensitive drum by a specified distance.
CONSTITUTION: A transfer paper 11 is electrostatically charged in the reverse polarity of the toner image developed on a photosensitive drum 1 by a transfer device 5, and the toner image on the drum 1 is transferred on the transfer paper 11. This device 5 is also used as a charging device for separation 14, and the transfer paper 11 is charged so that the charge amount be smaller than at the time of transfer position of the drum 1 by a specified distance. Therefore, due to the toner image of the drum 1 charged in reverse polarity, the part of specified width from the end of transfer paper 11 is not electrostatically attracted to the drum 1, so that the transfer paper 11 may be easily and securely separated from the drum 1. The same effect will be obtained when the transfer device and charging device for separation are provided separately.
