Abstract
PURPOSE: To denitrify sewage with a high removal rate, by providing a waveform conglomeratic layer on perforated pipes, which is provided on the bottom of the sewage channel in parallel with the shore or vertically to it, to gather sewage, which passed through the conglomeratic layer, to the perforated pipe.
CONSTITUTION: Sewage is treated for removing impurities and so on with net 4 and flows into conglomeratic layer 3 together with dissolved oxygen, ammonia, and nitric acid. Then, ammonia is nitrified, and the corresponding part is changed to nitrous acid and is next changed to nitric acid and is reduced to ammonia. The quantitative change depends upon the water temperature, pH, and the concentration. Nitric acid dispersed together with dissolved oxygen in conglomeratic layer 3 starts denitrification when dissolved oxygen is taken by microbes living on the surface of sediment and conglometrate in conglomeratic layer 3 to form the anaerobic state in the lower part of conglomeratic layer 3. This denitrified sewage is gathered by pipe 5 of tank 1. Since this device is easy to clog, it is exposed to air intermittently by diffusing pipe 6, and next, the outside and the inside of tank 1 are subjected to back washing by back washing pipe 7.
