Abstract

PURPOSE: To save pressure gas consumption, simplify molten metal cell construction and facilitate molten metal replenishing work by scooping up the molten metal in the cell into a scooping pipe and abutting the opening of the pipe on the pouring port of a mold then acting pressure from the other end of the pipe.
CONSTITUTION: The opening 3 side of a scooping pipe 2 is dipped into the molten metal in a molten metal cell 1, and scoops up the molten metal. Next, the opening 3 of the scooping pipe 2 is abutted and pressure contacted onto the pouring port 10 of a lower mold 9 and a pressure gas is supplied from the bottom end side of the pipe to act pressure upon the molten metal in the pipe 2, so that the molten metal is poured into the mold 7. The molten metal poured into the mold 7 causes directional solidification from the upper part toward the lower part. When the solidification of the molten metal in the mold 7 reaches the inside of the pouring port 10, the opening 3 of the pipe 2 is detached from the pouring port 10. Thence, the pipe 2 is dipped into the molten metal cell 1, and the residual molten metal in the pipe 2 is recovered to the pouring temperature. The molten metal charged into the cell 1 is occasionally replenished. This method is adapted to casting etc. of aluminum alloy.
