Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent that air not passed through an intake throttle valve is supplied to engine even if accuracy of the axial rail of a rod passed through a pressure chamber of a diaphragm actuator, by breaking communication between the inlet portion of a compressor and the pressure chamber of said diaphragm actuator at the time of low-speed, low-load operation of engine.
CONSTITUTION: Since an intake throttle valve 2 is kept in its almost fully closed position during low-speed, low-load operation of engine, the amount of intake air is reduced if a compressor 1a is rotated at a high speed, so that pressure in downstream intake pipe 3b is lowered. When the pressure in the downstream intake pipe 3b becomes lower than a predetermined level, communication between an air pipe 11 and a pressure chamber 4a of an exhaust-gas by-pass valve 8 is broken by a shut-off valve 12 provided in a signalling pipe 14. Therefore, air leaked into pressure chamber 4a through a seal 10 with a rod 9 passed therethrough by the function of a high negative pressure in pipe 3b is prevented from being supplied to engine by means of shut-off valve 12, so that low-speed, low-load operation of engine can be rendered stable.
